The Montréal Pipes and Drums band consists of roughly ten bagpipers, three snare drummers, and one bass drummer. Created in 2000 by Jordon Anderson, the Montréal Pipes and Drums have been one of Montréal's most active and prestigious highland bands. They have represented the Montréal United Irish Societies every year since 2000 in North America’s oldest and largest Saint Patrick’s Day parade. The MPD have performed in the Grey Cup Pre-Game show, at the opening of Montréal’s International Film Festival, and won first place when competing as a grade four band at the Montréal Highland Games. They have also performed in celebrations such as the Montréal International Celtic Festival, the Montréal Saint-Jean-Baptiste parade, the Victoria Cross Tattoo, the Québec Maritime Festival, and annual Robbie Burns events.
In 2008, the MPD were temporarily under the direction of former Simon Fraser University Pipe Band member Robert N. MacLeod. Since 2009, the band has been under the direction of Pipe Major Jenna Dennison and Lead Tip Nicholas Gélinas, both university music students and active teachers with the Montréal Piping and Drumming School.
